Natural Selections has been in the “Green” business since 1998. We started with the motivation to do something that mattered and not be just another retail shop. Our focus back then was our products made from industrial hemp, an incredible gift from God, that is underutilized and wrongly vilified in this country. Having grown over these past twelve years, we have expanded our line to include many eco-friendly products. In addition to hemp we carry bamboo, soy, tencel, organic cotton, flax linen, silk and wool. We have strived to educate our customers about the real “green” movement and also about this beautiful island of Ocracoke. We deplore the way in which politicians and charlatans are exploiting this movement. We urge you to be informed rather than just opinionated.

Natural Selection, better known on Ocracoke as “the hemp shop” is owned by Jude and Frank Brown. We are blessed with talented and caring employees, loyal customers, and the tireless efforts of our official greeter and loving companion Willie, our Pembroke Corgi.

We have been making our all natural bath soaps here on Ocracoke Island for over ten years. We now have regular customer from all over this country and even as far away as Australia. The compliments we have received for our soaps have been gratifying and encouraging. Most folks realize right away that there is no comparison between our soaps and the mass produced commercial products. We use only the finest vegetable oils and only pure essential oils for fragrance and their therapeutic benefits.
