Tucked back from the road, this little shop is one of Ocracoke’s treasures. The owner is an Ocracoke native who has continued many of the traditional home crafts of the island and now sells them in her shop. Fig preserves and jams, apple and pumpkin butter, peach rum jam and a variety of food preserves are available here. She also hand-looms bags and makes beaded jewelry and other handcrafted items. Look for the cream-colored building with the purple trim. Don’t miss it.

While you are visiting the Community Square, you will notice a small shop on the right-hand side of an old-fashioned building on the harbor. This small shop, called Xcite Bike, sells motor scooters.

Think Zillie’s when you are preparing for an evening of dining with friends. This cozy shop is loaded with all sorts of gourmet goodies: cheese, smoked salmon, sausages, pates, tapenades, olives, marinades, dips, organic chocolates and quality kitchen utensils. For the beer lover, you can mix and match six packs from more than 250 international and micro-brew selections. They also have an extensive collection of fine wine. Cigars can be found here too. New is the Wi-Fi wine deck where you can surf the web while sipping a glass of your favorite wine. The friendly and informed staff will happily put together a gift basket; be on the lookout for their weekly wine tastings and special holiday events.
